Get Grounded
You may or may not have heard of this technique. But put simply, grounding or earthing, is connecting yourself with the earth. It’s not ‘woo woo’, it’s actually scientifically proven to lower stress levels, increase immune function and reduce inflammation by providing our body with negatively charged antioxidant electrons.

We’re all electric, down to our smallest atom, we are energy! So think of the Earth as a huge battery. 

We obtain positive ions through our everyday, technology filled life. Our phones, wifi, TV’s, anything that contributes to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs). And because our way of living has decreased our contact and connection with the Earth, and increased our exposure to EMFs, we tend to create a build up positive ions in our body because we aren’t releasing these ions. 

What’s so bad about positive ions? Well like anything to do with our body, we need balance. Some positive, some negative. In terms of ions though, when we have a build up or too much positive ions we can feel fatigued, depressed, have aches and pains. Positive ions can also turn in to free radicals. Free radicals contribute to acidity in our body (because they oxidise our cells) and damage our healthy cells. This in turn creates things like illness, disease, and premature aging.

So because Earth has a negative ion charge, when we connect with it we release positive ions and restore our balance. A body in balance provides us a healthier state to be in both physically and mentally.

 The best ways to enjoy this practice include:

– Take a walk barefoot, along the beach or on the grass

– Take your shoes off while playing with the kids (encourage them to be barefoot too!)

– Swim in the ocean

– Make a habit of it! Every morning or on your lunch break, stand barefoot on the grass (aim for 20 minutes)
